Doctors who hold full medical registration in Australia can be sponsored as a temporary resident.
The visa class for temporary residence in Australia for overseas trained doctors is the Temporary Business (Long Stay) visa (Sub Class 457).
These visas can be applied for a period of between three (3) months and four (4) years.
Once medical registration achieved, doctors may choose to apply for permanent residence under one of the following employer-sponsored or independent visas:
- Employer Nomination Scheme
- Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme
- General Skilled Migration
Once a general practitioner has received initial approval from the relevant Medical Board, IPN can progress to applying for visa Sponsorship.
The application will require details of your dependants who will travel with you to Australia, for example your spouse and children.
You will also be required to show evidence of relevant skills, qualifications, experience and an employment background which matches the nominated position.
The Visa application can be made consecutively with the Sponsorship nomination but not before.
Prior to applying for a temporary visa you must:
- Hold approved medical registration with AHPRA;
- Have a GP position to work in.
